The Desire To Succeed Poem by Oduetse Gabonnwe

The Desire To Succeed

I don’t like the way life is
Why has she had to leave this side?
We buried her a while ago but my heart still misses her
I thought she was gonna make it to see my success
But she passed away before she could see her boy shine
She never had a chance to see leadership qualities she taught me

I am up and has the world in the palm of my hand
I am living the life you wished I could live
The sad thing is just that you are not here to see it all
You sacrificed and compromised your wishes
To fill my heart with happiness while growing up
I am the man now and followed your every principle in life

Every time you were doing good things
You never needed appraisal or credit for your good work
You would rather prefer to be criticized, to work on your weakness
To look and know areas to improve on
That’s one thing I admire about you

You were always there for me when I needed you
I sometimes cry just thinking of what you’ve been through
Just to see me smile
I know how much you loved me
And right now I wish you were here looking at me
To see how your son made it
And I know you could have been proud of me if you were alive
You’ve always said I am gonna be the light of our family
Today, I am flying the family flag high

I took care of you before your death
It felt like you were my young girl with the cutest smile on your face
And if there is one (1) thing I would want that I don’t have now
I would love to have you again

I always had a dream of being where I am
I did whatever it takes to get what I want in life
And I would also like to thank my brothers and sisters
For their support they’ve given me when I needed it most

Family that is united is the solution to the unachievable and life’s obstacles
Every goal is achievable through perseverance and patience
I love you, Mom and you will always be my queen.
