The Distance Between Us Poem by Sumita Jetley

The Distance Between Us

Two souls collided, a fateful start,
A project bound them, yet touched the heart.
Meera, sharp, a strategist strong,
Vikram, solving puzzles where numbers belong.

Late-night whispers, ideas that flowed,
Fiery debates where brilliance glowed.
But beneath the grind, the cracks appeared,
The masks they wore, slowly disappeared.

He spoke of dreams he'd left behind,
A guitar, once his solace, now confined.
She felt the sting, her own truth near,
A journal abandoned, for years unclear.

The bond they shared was not romance,
But a mirror's gaze, a soul's second chance.
Through stories of fears and childhood lore,
They saw themselves, and something more.

Vikram withdrew, afraid to stray,
Meera reflected, took time away.
A weekend's pause, her journal reopened,
The words spilled out, a heart unbroken.

Vikram, too, found strings to strum,
A melody lost, now softly sung.
Their project soared, their teamwork hailed,
But life moved on, the closeness paled.

No bitterness, no ties to sever,
Their bond had served, but not forever.
At the end, a knowing glance,
A quiet thanks, a final chance.

'Sometimes, ' she wrote, her heart laid bare,
'People come not to stay, but to care.
To hold a mirror, to help us see,
The lost pieces of who we're meant to be.
