The divine light dwells inside my head,
My life swings gently on its thread.
When this light takes over, I see green—
Soon, my monsters of darkness are dead,
Soon, my monsters of darkness are dead.
This light controls all that I do;
No one knows, they can't construe—
The many monsters I've slain—
The Jihad-e-Akbar, as the Prophet says.
Next, it targets my ego,
Next, it targets my ego.
Each day, it urges me to wage
A jihad fierce against my nafs,
The bloodier, the more the thrill—
Tonight, the battle continues still.
I follow the divine will,
I follow the divine will.
This ghost of nafs is never satisfied,
It wants to kill my true self—
It can't be denied. It is our open foe.
Its wishes I can never abide,
I obey the divine command!
I obey the divine command!
