The Dog Poem by Valentin Busuioc

The Dog

Rating: 3.8

after my dad died
our dog broke the chain
and went straight to the tomb

it stayed there for several weeks

it had no tears in its eyes
did not scream
its gaze was just empty
looking to the ground

every once in a while
the priest gave its food
and caressed it

one day
when the whole village came to see it
it was not there anymore

I found only the yellowed grass on the grave

shaped like a dog
wrapped
closely to a man's chest
