The Dog Named Smitty Poem by Francis Duggan

The Dog Named Smitty

Not everyone loves Smitty he is not everyone's friend
But Genevieve and Graeme on him can depend
To protect their home from burglars when they are away
No stranger his territory will enter if Smitty on it has the say
Smitty is a Smithfield terrier an eight year old gray and brown
One who is quite loyal to his masters one of the loyal dogs of old Maldon Town
As true a friend as one could wish for to this Genevieve and Graeme can testify
There is quite a nice side to Smitty to please those he loves his best he does try
He loves chasing ball and going for walks and he loves to drive in the car
He likes to be taken on long drives no journey for him seems too far
He is not very trusting of strangers but in his ways he can be kind
But those who have become friends of Smitty say better than him hard to find
Smitty is a Smithfield terrier a tousled looking gray and brown
Though not a friend to everybody one of the loyal dogs of old Maldon Town.
