The Down Side Of Love Poem by Francis Duggan

The Down Side Of Love

Though the poets and the singers love's praises does sing
The down side of love can be a mentally hurtful thing
And the sorrow of lost love can linger for years
It has reduced big macho fellows to tears
Love has inspired song and story and rhyme
But few loves are known for to last a lifetime
Few unions of love does last for life
I know of one old bloke married to his sixth wife
Love is a thing that begins with a kiss
But what one never knew of one never will miss
Those who have never known of love in truth one can say
Can be spared of love's disappointments and are lucky in a way
Love that gives rise to happiness can end in tears
And linger in feelings of bitterness for years.
