The Dream Poem by Lee McVicar

The Dream

I wrote this for my sister, after her first puppy, Molly, was killed by a hit and run jerk.

When I sit up I see the mist,
I feel her heart, I feel her kiss,
My eyes are closed, I know that this,
Is nothing but a dream

The autumn leaves, they watched us walk,
The railway tracks, they heard us talk,
The winter snow will never know,
The angel that it missed

-chorus-
A pretty lady, I once knew,
Or was it all a dream? Or was it all a dream?
She loved us all, we never knew,
That it was all a dream, that it was all a dream

If I could choose, I'd never wake,
I'd play with her, until I'd ache,
Just one more kiss from her I'd take,
Then let her float away

It's hard to let my baby go,
She'll be just fine, and now I know,
My love for her, I'll always show,
I'll let this dream unfold

-chorus-
A pretty lady, I once knew,
Or was it all a dream? Or was it all a dream?
She loved us all, we never knew,
That it was all a dream, that it was all a dream

Don't let me wake, please leave me here,
This vision, is too sweet,
I love you girl, and I know for sure,
One day, again we'll meet

and I said,

-chorus-
A pretty lady, I once knew,
Or was it all a dream? Or was it all a dream?
She loved us all, we never knew,
That it was all a dream, that it was all a dream
