The Drone Of These Academics Poem by Raymond Farrell

The Drone Of These Academics

The drone of these academics
In these mother effing arts programs
And so forth
Is the endless hum
Of people forever
Idealizing, eulogizing, surrealizing
Life
About which these pontificators
Know virtually nothing
It would be a good idea
To kick them out
Of their Ivory Towers
Hand them a pick and shovel
Make them dig a ditch
So they would know
What real work is about
Give them a hoe and spade
Put them to work
Planting a garden
So they would know
What growing food is about
Strap a hod full of bricks
To their backs
So they would learn
How the building
Their office is in
Was built
Give them a milk stool and pitch fork
Send them to the country side
Give them an ax and send them to the bush
And make them finally
Do an honest day's work
For a pittance
And after they've learned
What real life is about
Let them return
To their cloistered institutions
Humble and wise enough
To have something
Worthwhile to say
In language
Everyday people
Can understand.
