The Dropbear Poem by Noah Shaw

The Dropbear

A koala sat up in a tree,
As quiet and lazy as he could be.
He munched on leaves for most of the day,
Then closed his eyes and drifted away.

The bush was calm, the night was slow,
The moon shined softly down below.
The wind moved gently through the trees,
And everything felt quiet and at ease.

Then dark clouds covered up the sky, And a strange green light came flashing by.
The koala woke and looked around,
As thunder shook the ground.

His claws got bigger. His eyes shone bright.
His heart beat hard. Something wasn't right.

He jumped! He crashed! He raced! He tore!
He hit the branches with a giant roar!

Running! Leaping! Dropping! Fast!
Through the bush he blasted past!

The possums fled! The campers screamed!
Nothing was quite what it seemed!

Then morning came. The spell was gone.
The dropbear vanished with the dawn. Back in the tree, without a care,
Sat the same old sleepy koala bear.
