The Drunken Uncertainty Of Love. Poem by Keegan Stanton

The Drunken Uncertainty Of Love.

He makes me feel unsure of who I am today.
I jump in excitement and I cower away.

I reach for the stars; I can't leave my front gate.
I feel balanced and sure; I feel heavy with weight.

He has access to part of me that no one else does.
A part of the soul that overflows with pure love.

So, how can I pay my concern any mind,
When I know the risks of leaving him behind.

My energy soars just to think of his smile,
His kiss, his touch, his eyes deep like the Nile.

The hugs, the giggles, the days in our bubble,
When the outside didn't exist to keep us out of trouble.

Then to think of the nights bringing chaos and anger,
Our thoughtless actions governed by drunken stupor.

Times when he hurts and times I hurt too;
Times when we aren't connected and no light shines through.

We move forward two steps then move back six,
Trying for spiritual growth before drink is in the mix.

Who knows what's right, which way we should turn,
when we keep drifting back hoping we will learn.

Will there be an end which leaves us both in tears,
Alone and unhappy, facing our worst fears?

We can only love, only pray, only try.
Because life wouldn't be the same with any other guy.
