Hoarded by dragons and the phoenix
Loved and desired by men
In stories, it filled a pirates chest of treasure
A soft yellow metal, mined or paned
Made into coins and jewellery, crosses and crowns
To show off the wealth of a ruler, church or man
How are heads are turned by its' glow
We always see something we'd love to own
Though not now rated as much as platinum
Because it's not quite so rare
Still there's something about gold and always will
That reaches right into our hearts and souls
