The Embrace Of The Deep Poem by Kitty Marie Lucas

The Embrace Of The Deep

cold blue-green terror binds me now
slows my movements, hides the ground
shadows lurk hungrily
wanting to get hold of me
rocking me in deep dark sleep
i drowned in the embrace of the deep

cold strong terror binds me tight
i am carried through both day and night
floating in diseased drink
i have too much time to think
as birds above fly circuituous routes
and down below i am death mute

blue-green terror binds me now
in this watery grave i drowned
the unknown brushes part my arm
not a gasp reveals alarm
and when just bones compose my sleep
i'll sink to the recesses of the deep

silver scales are now my friends
only the fish i'll kiss again
all the creatures here unknown
down to them is where i'll go
massive rocks, miles under me
the hungry dark waits underneath

so we linger once we die
with silent horror, cursed am i
all they said, life's but a dream
and here i wait in deep sleep
all alone on this angry sea
i drowned in the embrace of the deep
