The Fields Are Burning - Poem by Kitty Marie Lucas

the fields are burning
again and the air is black
set the flame, cry
watch as the floods come back
the world
on fire
it's ending tonight
reaping
desire
and i'm too weak to fight

stake your claim
making my pain
grow stronger
change my fate
you're taking me again

so domineering
controlling my every move
you're complicating
everything i once knew
it was
like
i always said
it feels
like
this is the end of innocence

stake your claim
making my pain
grow stronger
change my fate
you're taking me again

blades of grass
darkest night
take all i have
i won't fight
i wish i were stronger
but i was not
memories last longer
than my pain
maybe not
i think not
i think not

the fields on fire
again and the smoke chokes out
and i am staked here
my form a curse to me now
