I saw a chasm encircling the earth,
a divide between affluence and dearth.
Myriads of souls stood on either side,
each with its double on the other side.
In the North, gaiety and wealth,
In the South, misery and death.
And I, standing on either side,
rejoiced and wept, lived and died.
