The End - Life Poem by James Green

The End - Life

I felt no fear as the sword was drawn,
And I knew not if after that moment I would live on?
I stood with my eyes filled with blood-
Blood-with what the sea did flood,
They chewed their eyes and licked their tongue,
And as they broke their ears songs were sung.
I bit my lip and sucked on my thumb-
Scars on a body, with a heart so numb.

With all my might I swam across the sea,
But I knew that from no battle I did flee.
(They told me that every act was like a battle field,
But never a sword did I yield,
Yet underneath the sky so black,
I shield I yield did crack.
So far, so hard I tried to run,
But my father said, “You have to fight the battle son”

But I knew that I ran not for evasion,
But to prevent my life’s invasion)
I swam across the heavy water…
Water, burdened by the weight of its slaughter.
I needed not a life of war,
But one of beauty; a life of life; a life without a scar,
A life with peace; a life away from this entire rattle,
Yet I knew- forever shall haunt me this battle.

I knew not if I would swim across,
Before the sea would shoot me down with a cross,
Far above, I could see the moon,
Still shining pale at the time of noon,
It stood for beauty; a beautiful life,
A life for which, even chained I shall strive;
I know not if this life shall ever be mine,
Yet towards it, I shall swim, even after the stars cease to shine.

Lines are easy for me to preach,
But a life with the moon is not easy to reach.
It seemed so easy, to battle in water-
To shatter bones, to tear lips like a monster.
But I always believed that from this sea I shall swim away,
As from the end-the life, my eyes would not sway.
Many a doubt raised the high tides,
But for my dream-my end-my life,
I was not ready to make compromises.
