The Fate Of A Struggling Poet Poem by Chen-ou Liu

The Fate Of A Struggling Poet

a haibun, prose mixed with haiku

candlelight dinner
a love haiku
gifted to my blind date

these ums and ahs
she splits every bill
down to the cent

On the eve of Lottery Day, half asleep... and yet half awake, I hear her laugh in my laughter.

The first rays of sunlight slant through my bedroom window. It's a serious thing: just to be alive on this fresh morning in the dream-shattered world.
