The First Frontier Home Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

The First Frontier Home

Wide, flat land, so bare and grand,
No trees to find across the sand.
Folks who came, with hopes held high,
Used the earth beneath the sky.

Slabs of soil, piled up with might,
To build a house, with all their light.
Rough and tough, a simple place,
But still, their home, with humble grace.

Snakes might creep, and mud might flow,
When rain would fall, a muddy show.
But it was theirs, a place to keep,
A promise made, awake or asleep.

Some went back, too hard to stay,
But others fought, through night and day.
They changed the land, a sturdy seed,
For farmers now, who plant and feed.

We build with wood, and stone so strong,
But their first home, where they belonged,
Was built on hope, a mighty thing,
The prairie's heart, that made dreams sing.
