The Flea Poem by Raymond Farrell

The Flea

Rating: 4.5

Do not belittle the flea, dear lady
Or you, proud mocking gentleman
Small indeed, he may be
But, compared to you, he's Superman
The greatest decathlete of all creatures
His strength, agility and speed
Are among his finer features
And man, can the fellow breed
He produces 500 offspring in his day
A virtual Congress of Bloodsuckers that feed
On mammals that pass their way
Not unlike the one in Washington today
But more efficient in every way
He's as strong as? ? ? as a flea
He can pull 160,000 times his weight
There's no comparison, as you can see
When you're really that great
Jump, there's no jumping like what he can do
He can jump 30,000 times before he's through
As a decathlete, he'd pen the record book anew
High jumping, the human equivalent of 75 stories high
Obliterating the 100 meters record in one race
Accelarating 50 times Shuttle speed while flashing by
When at the broad jump, he takes his place
He'll put the record out of sight
By covering a distance in an average jump
Of 150 times his height
No man can this performance trump
So do not mock or belittle the flea
A creature of uncanny ability.
