The Flightless Birds Poem by A.A. Oniwodigo

We walk on grounds so petrified
filled with what we believe's wrong and what's right
the fear to look up at the angels and demons
surrounding our heads with fake hope and false greetings
our emotions emote a motionless flight
the hope to soar without no fear, but we plummet when we realize
the chains that hold our wings is where we find our worth, in our eyes
we find it in worthless stuff and assure it with stupid songs that we sing
not to realize nobody really cares about those things
we eventually break and fall apart when our heads get too heavy for our wings to carry
we weep and creep around like the demons that surround us
filled with false belief of pointless things we want to ground us
if we only knew the only person holding us back was ourselves
we're afraid to change, because, what if we become the demons we fear?
but we forget that there are angels up there, who taunt our useless selves
we are building the brick wall we fight against, just cause our curiosity is crushed
how frustrating and so degrading 'the god who created us is in no position to speak'
we blame him for things we interpret ourselves say 'he's the one deciding what we put on the shelves and what we, can think or be, because all your life is only what you read and what you see'
but that's not true, we control what we do, we're stuck in a roundabout we forget we can drive though
but see, the angels believe in us too, they knew, all along that we are holding the key to our cages once we're set free, once we truly believe
that our souls knows evil and right
if we listen to ourselves we can escape the wall we'll break and fight
and finally eventually see what was always meant to be
like moth drawn to a flame to a fire to the light
the conscious birds will take off in fearless flight.
