The Friendship Song Poem by Anupama Anpat

Side by side on a coach they rode,
they laughed, they fought.
As the bus moved along,
life seemed a beautiful song.


As the world around them faded away,
only to the rhythm of their voices, they swayed.
The journey itself became the destination,
a ‘once in a lifetime’ excursion.


To each other they opened their hearts,
but soon came the time to part,
the ride had come to an end,
still, their hearts were content.


For each would carry the image of the other,
blooming in their heart, like the forest heather.
No matter how much time may lapse,
they promised not to turn this memory to ash.


They hugged and bid their farewell,
allowing their emotions to swell.
Forever this bond will hold,
to friendship, this is an ode.
