The Game Poem by lauren lanzel

The Game

You can’t expect me to just close my eyes and forget about the past.
You make it seem so easy to throw everything away,
But you mean too much to me.

I’ll fall asleep, just to awake and find out it was just a dream.
And the things that you promised were all just lies,
In your little game.

This is all too hard to understand. It all happens at my expense,
When everything goes just the way you planned.
I can’t believe you’ll never look back,
When everyday I'm stuck in the past.

I’ll fall asleep, just to awake and find out it was just a dream.
And the things that you promised were all just lies,
In your little game.

We used to be just fine with all these complications.
When did it go so wrong?
Why can’t we just move on?

When I close my eyes the game of all your lies unfolds.
But daylight hits my face and you won’t find a trace
Of everything I dreamt. This is exactly how you planned it,
And I’m just the last piece in your little game of lies.

Boys and their games - tisk tisk. Sounds to me that this poem is one of learning, a painful experience, but you will bask in the sunlight as the world hurries along around you, and you'll find another Love. -L.C.
