The Gibbous Phase Poem by Mehreen Mujeeb

The Gibbous Phase

It's a poison that doesn't kill
It's an elixir that won't fulfill.

The stars turn into blind spots
Knitting the night into nostalgic knots.

The sun becomes a strobe
Its burnt shine darkens my probe.

I saw the moon in the gibbous phase
It was the dark side that left me in daze.

There's been lightning in my ears
There's been thunder in my eyes
My lips tremble in a contradicting storm
The aching pain seems to break into a norm.

The shadowed phases of the moon
Don't mean its parts are going soon.

They cycle around until they aren't seen
But that doesn't mean it hasn't been.
