The Grand Canyon Poem by Natarajan Ramaseshan

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon

Millions of years ago
the mighty river Colorado
when its
way was restricted
and course constricted
sprang like a cornered serpent
with weird wrath to find a path.

It collided and crushed,
cut and chiselled,
creating in due course,
a coarse and colossal,
giant and gorgeous
Grand Canyon.

Oh, Grand Canyon!
You are
an unmatched and unparalleled
abyss of awesomeness;
a huge hollow
haunted by hallucinations;
a delirious depth of
deadly delusions
and a sprawling
stretch of scariness.

But tell me,
is your chasm
deeper than the
devious and deceitful
human mind?
Does your eerie expanse
outsize
our avarice?
