The Greater Depression Poem by Jeremiah Abuan

The Greater Depression

Not with my will I tried and smiled
to hide the grief that lurks inside
the heart once hopeful now defiled
and buried deep with sorrow’s tide

I want to stand with both my feet
but lack the power it requires
and made a solemn love entreat
burned all with emotional fires

One chance I got and blew it all
and now I suffer brokenness
this eyes unwary; tears will fall
because of a heartfelt illness

Will dawn arrive to rise upon
a sad, will-be stranger to love?
Will my heart feel again in stun?
Will it again feel pain and throb?

Only time can tell when or why,
who or how it can love once more
but before I see gold and try
I ask it won’t hurt like before

A lesson learned in every pain:
in love the rule is give-and-take
it’s much of worth and hard maintain
but the end it’s for perfect’s sake
