The Green Parade Poem by Rob Knetsch

The Green Parade

all of us as we were waiting
in the greatest anticipation
stretching out most to see
if all that would be welcome
could already be in sight

finally cheers as they arrived
grouped by shape and color
in so many different shades
in all the kinds of green
the first were the grasses

passing second and in all colors
welcoming all our loud hurrays
and flags were the ever many
groups of the bushes and shrubs
both the fruit bearers and the nots

the very bestest of the parade
were now coming and passing
all of them as friendly and nice
as ever waving and greeting
with all the leaves and branches

but the best tree was saved
for last as being the oldest
and the most wise and still
being very much the greatest
with all his leaves waving

from joy and fun to sadness
as he had passed by, gone
into the distance, out of sight
and we were left behind, all
feeling empty but fullfilled
