The Handshake - Poem by Mercedes Graf

Let me introduce you to someone,
a friend of mine said
as she steered me through the room.
and I passed through the crowd
not caring at all
till I found myself next to him.
My eyes met his gaze
as I lifted my chin
and I felt something stir deep inside.
I reached for the hand
he extended to mine
just as his smile touched my heart.
I felt his handshake
it was firm, it was sure.
It was just a beginning
yet it promised much more.

Lovely, a first handshake, but I must asked what next?
