The Haupitonga Poem by Helen Gaudin

The Haupitonga

Rating: 5.0

In the garden
The winds chime frantically dances
As the haupitonga blusters through
A south easterly wind
With all the subtlety of a rambunctious teenager
Fill to the brim with energetic life
Bounding through the gentle air of early summer
Trying to impress with it‘s strength and energy
Roaring round the corners of the house
Tossing tree limbs into a wild dance
Then suddenly stopping to catch its breath
For another whirl of wildness
Clutching at the window frames
Pushing into the house to dance the enclosed air
Into fresh exuberance
Wake up! Wake up!
Wake up to life and energy
Free your spirit
To dance through the day
The Haupitonga calls
From its wild, energetic heart.

Your poem is beautiful. I hadn't heard of the Haupitonga before, so I had to look it up. It comes from the Maori language. Thanks for sharing.
