The Hearing Aid Test Poem by Cynthia Fielding

The Hearing Aid Test

I went with someone I know
to a hearing aid test.

The tester wore a mask
over her mouth
for religious reasons.

Deaf people
rely on lip reading
to make sense
of what they hear.

Inevitably the guy
was over-stressed.

His aids are useless.
They are far too loud,
and distort the sound.

I bet that management
daren't tell that tester
to take her religious stuff off.

I wonder how many
duff deaf aids lie unused.
