The Heart, A Heart It Is Poem by Sanu Sharma

The Heart, A Heart It Is

I know
even if the sky bends low
it can't caress the earth below.
I know
though the moon, so greatly adored
can't be clasped within one's hoard.

I know
the darkness of heart won't retreat
no light's strength can make it beat
I know
this loneliness can't be crushed
by any friend or kinship's touch.

But the heart, after all, a heart it is
entwined in countless sorrows, it weaves
craving fleeting moments of bliss
ablaze with longing for the distant moon
transforming, cascading as dewdrops in the morn.

Just like an ancient scar
the heart keeps festering, aching far.

I know,
not all desires the heart may gain
yet, the heart, a heart it is
unceasingly yearns, inclining
to heights of desires and
depths of longing.

I know
it's almost beyond possibility for your essence
to be enveloped within mine.
Yet,
the heart, after all, is a heart.
