The Hippopotamus Poem by RIC BASTASA

The Hippopotamus

i want to make
no sense and so
i write senselessly
trusting nothing but
this instinct of
being nonsensical
which ultimately
becomes a measure
of how well we have
accepted this fact
that nonsense is
much better than
this hubris of having
to say that i know
everything too well
and yet miss one
very important thing

the truth: i am an
ignoramus.
