The Spring played its sterling rays
around the squirrel's nutty catch
No longer need she wait a bit-
for Winter was now at her back.
The nut looked ripe and juicy
(as only a nut can to a squirrel)
She'd squire it back to her nest,
Where she would first break then eat it…
And how she drooled as she imagined the rest.
But then a crow invidiously swooped down-
her beak eager to strike at this new deal
The squirrel looked for shelter-
shrinking from this blackbird's welter,
And thus...
Surrendered her once scrumptious meal.
