The Innocent Youth Poem by Chidiebere Raphael

The Innocent Youth

What man painted in such great coyness,
Naivety and innocence in youth's dawn
Could decrypt love's encrypted voices.

What choices would be made,
When all that's at stake
Is a heart that remains untouched, still unbroken?

Yet it yearns, it burns and it mourns,
For the nearness yet absence of what soul
The heart is yet to know and be known.

To that shy and innocent youth,
Beware the surfaces where hearts may break,
And when you choose to descend,
Spread your wings, Unburden your heart.

Feel the wind push against your skin,
For even the purest love may be swept away,
By the angels above or the demons below,
Leaving our hearts to mourn, to burn, to yearn anew.
