The Kansas Comet Poem by R.A. Burleigh

The Kansas Comet

There was nobody like Gayle Sayers
Nobody who could cut a field like it was a piece of paper

There was nobody like Jim Thorpe who could run all day
And then jump over a series of hurdles like they were turtles

There was nobody like George Ruth
Come on tell the truth, hitter, pitcher, liar, he set the house on fire

There was nobody like Jackie Robinson
Ask Yogi if he didn't steal home, stole our hearts too

There was nobody like Rafer Johnson, Babe zaharias, Bob Mathias
How many more, at least a score

Ok, the last: there was nobody like Jessie Owens
He wrote the longest most important poems, one day in Germany
