The Kola Nut Speaks Poem by Ndimancho T. Nyowikeh

The Kola Nut Speaks

Two nuts faced down earth,
One nut faced up.
Bad luck!

Two nuts faced up the sky,
One nut faced down earth
Good luck!

The gods communicate.
In their silent dialogue,
Only the priest listens.
Follow not thy intuitions.

Kola nut is the umbilical cord.
Nourishment of the gods of Noni.
Palms-wine onto the kola nut,
Sanctifies the heart of the gods.

In this way,
The gods speak;
So that we may live.
