The Land Of The Free Poem by Keith Lankford

The Land Of The Free

"Anowara: kowa"

Blood stains the land
So many once roamed
The land of the eagle
The buffalo their home
Death came quickly
From distant thrones
Rape pillage murder
Enslavement unknown
Fierce and proud
Dancing at night
Ancient songs
Chanted bright firelight
Hairpieces gathered
Tokens of fight
Outnumbered they fell
Feathers took flight
Land of the free
Home of the brave
Reserved for our friends
Those too in graves
The land of the free
Their past home
Free no more
For them to roam
The birth of a nation
A new promised land
Promises broken
New lines in sand

The Land Of The Free
