The Land Of Poem by Francis Duggan

The Land Of

The Land of the grey and the red kangaroo
And the Land of the black and the white Cockatoo
Of wombat, koala, emu, lyrebird and currawong
And kookaburra by sight or voice one could not get wrong.

The Land of the World's oldest known indigenous race
A people imbued with a strong sense of place
Descendants of the people of the Dreamtime
Their culture is the source of story and rhyme.

The Land of the wattle and pittosporum and eucalypt tree
A big Land of many races of the southern sea
A Country that the sun shines on every day
And a Country from other Countries far away.

The land of rosella, wallaby, echidna, platypus and lorikeet
And the pee wee who lives in the park off of the suburban street
And of magpie the bird with the beautiful song
Your guess is Australia and you are not wrong.
