The Last Red Rose Of The Fall Poem by Francis Duggan

The Last Red Rose Of The Fall

On the grass her petals the last red rose of the Fall
As decaying food for insects destined to crawl
For as long as they live like the rose they too will die
The fate of the insects and the rose is the fate of you and i
In bloom a few weeks ago so lovely to see
The last red rose of Autumn on it's mother tree
It will be nine months at least in Summer of next year
Before new roses on the rose tree will appear
For every life form a last night and day
Beauty is born to eventually decay
But Nature the one who life helps for to create
For a while does go dormant only to regenerate
On all things of life Nature does have the say
The petals of the red rose on the brown grass does lay.
