The Last Summer Poem by Lacie Hebert

The Last Summer

One day there'll come a summer's end
I cannot spend with all my friends.
One day the porch will sit more still,
The coffee cup less often filled.

The songs we sang will grow more rare,
As empty chairs replace them there.
Yet what a blessing it has been
To sit among such souls and kin.

To watch the fireflies rise at night,
To see the moon's familiar light.
If life is measured by its cost,
Then mine was rich in all I've lost.

For grief itself is proof of love.
