The Leaves Will Fall Poem by Christine Lockehart

The Leaves Will Fall

No longer has the cold remained bearable
For a state of dismality lures over
Lonesome and dark
Chilling to the soul
Compressed by a neverending pain
Yearning for salvation
Where is the light?

Finally!
Life has begun to sprout
Enlightening the World all around
The skies have now cleared
The rays of Heaven have seeped through the cracks of this Hell
At last I am freed

Sought and found
This light has now completely bloomed
Comforted by its warm embrace
Cradled within maternal grace
A flame so bright
An everlasting burn

Wait...
Oh no!
What's happening? !
Colors begin to fade
The leaves are falling
Leaving trees bare and untouched
The light-
MY light...
It's warmth diminishing slowly
The World I once knew...Now distorted.
'Tis slipping away from me

NO!

I refuse.
I won't let it happen again...
I mustn't.

So many changes...
I can't take it.

I have to end it.

But I can't...
For it's beyond me.
It's too late.

I now return to the beginning.
Plunged back into an icy abyss
How long it might last,
He only knows...

I can only hope for the future,
Pray that the light might return...

But I can assure you
The leaves will fall again...
