The Lesser Light To Rule The Night Poem by Mac Wilkey

I hope that there's no doubt in you
No thought His Word might not be true
And more I need to make you see
That there is zero doubt in me
 
If we're agreed we can pursue
What God revealed for us to view
What He put plainly in our sight
A verse about the lesser light
 
Now often we're amazed at how
God planned ahead for here and now
How he directed Moses then
To write Hebrew for Englishmen
 
In chapter one of Genesis
The sixteenth verse you cannot miss
The clearest rhyme--the meter sound
A poem meant to stay around
 
And though I marvel at the rhyme
And marvel at its trip through time
I'm more amazed by all He shows
When we divide His Word--here goes
 
If darkness stands for men in sin
Then we -- the lesser lights -- begin
To see that by reflecting Him
We shed the light to lives quite dim
 

And clearly then the greater light
Is He who shines -- in Him no night
Can ever be --His light's unchecked
Unless our lives just don't reflect
 
Perhaps that is the reason why
He mentions stars that fill the sky
If like the moon we don't display
Reflected light -- they show the way
 
The stars they say are distant suns
Just like our own--just diff'rent ones
To darkened hearts they represent
The Light that God to all has sent
 
So choose which light you want to be
Reflecting Him for all to see
Or lighting lives so bleak and dim
By being smaller lights like Him
