The Living Things Poem by Lehlohonolo Selai

The Living Things

Let me play with your hands
And feel the unceasing warmth thereof
Let me feel the rush of time like antelopes
When your hands push memories faster in my mind love

Let me gaze steadily into your eyes
Black and saturate with wonder are those eyes
Heavy and yet thrilling to gaze upon are those eyes
Let me see the weary blink of your beautiful eyes

Let me beat my chest now
Perhaps like the Creator in awe
Gazing upon the works of His hands, the Lord
Gasping heavier perhaps on His majestic throne

Let me beat that chest now
As I breathe heavily from your sweet scent
Right when you put your head on my chest to lie
Or perhaps to feel my heart beat with love

Let me live happily love
Among the living things that comprehend love
Among the living things that complement a much greater love
Among the living things that are born with love

Let me wear joy tonight
For you among many are my reason to smile
A living thing made with love from high above
A masterpiece of the Creator for me to love
