The Lonely The Forsaken Poem by Herbert Dry

The Lonely The Forsaken

I looked into the heart of the lonely, I saw myself
I looked into my heart I saw the loneliness of others
Is my loneliness self inflected or have other's found me unworthy of friendship
I looked into the heart of the forsaken and I saw myself, I looked into my heart and saw other's abandoned and deserted
I said to the lonely why should it be they said to me look into your own heart and you tell us
I said to the forsaken must it be so the forsaken said unto me look into your own heart then you will see
I looked at the windows of my heart the windows had bars not to keep anyone in but to keep everyone out so I removed the bars and gave the lonely, the forsaken, the abandoned and the deserted the key to the door of my heart
