The Longing Poem by Lukie Pieterse

The Longing

Rating: 4.0

Dark skies,
Grey sidewalks,
Purple nightmares,
Crimson and clover,
Over and over...

Visions of a life spent in loneliness
Thoughts of uncertain future bliss
Waking to loss
Embracing grief
Hugging the dead bodies of forgotten dreams

Slow torture of my mind:
A scream without sound
echoing with hollow desperation
between the glass walls
of the prison cave of my mind

My soul wanting to take flight,
craving to search with frantic hunger
for acceptance and peace and even love,
trapped in a maddening labyrinth
of misunderstood intent

The complexities of my being,
Dissected by your care,
illuminated by the light of your soul -
ever so present,
and yet so distant

May God provide grace for a time to come,
a time when two souls are ready to unite
a time when two minds are free to bond
a time when two bodies are allowed to join
a time when we might become One...
