The Loss Poem by Lilibeth Apat

The Loss

I woke up and feel tired still
In my heart the heaviness persists
Wonder why I feel so drained
And realize it’s your not being here.

I feel tired, old, and useless without you
I feel lost and alone, with you gone
I wish the days would swiftly come to pass
So I can see you again and make up for lost touch.

You’re someone I anticipate each day
To talk to and share my troubles with
To argue, fight, and make up with
To lean my head on and simply be with.

I found out too late how attached to you I’ve been
Your absence weighs me down even after a long sleep
My appetite has left me, did you take it away?
How I wish you’d come back soon to me and stay.
