The Lotus Lady - Tribute To Grandma Poem by C.H. Seow

The Lotus Lady - Tribute To Grandma

A lady
She comes by
Far from her motherland
To this soil of the foreign
In search of a path
Of enduring reluctance

Fragile heart has a mask

With her lotus feet to the ground
She graced not the glossy covers
But the fields of life
The staple that fed the family
A figure in oriental silhouette
Carrying her stoutly weight
Pedaling on that rusty steel
With such grace
Such elegance of the noble
Of the aristocrat
Yet
She plough the paddy seeds,
Till the day
Her limbs failed her
The sun was never too blazed
The hands were never too tired
The lands, were never too wide

She has a home
A temporary home
Heaven has a mask

She laid there
In her solitary realm
We could not accompany
Held her hands
That pair of wrinkled, weakening wonders

The tune of despair found its place in us
When mother witnessed the escape
Of her miseries
She was released
Gone, but not lost

She smiles
In her portrait
Such a smile that will rattle
The strongest of men
The deepest of emotions
We weep
We weep
In wishing the void could be filled with her presence
Still, to no avail
When tears became an eternity of pain
And grief had grew into a tree of rage
God just shrugged His shoulders

If justice, was ever presence

I threw the soil over her resting haven
And whispered
So long, the lotus lady
Now is the time you rest
In everlasting bliss
Go search for that light
Go look for him, and Him

As the last bead of tear
Gravitated towards my quivering lips
Down, onto the dusty roads
Sobbing my way through the afternoon sun

This is a great poem, Seow. A pair of wrinkled, weakening wonders. Fantastic word choice. The poem is a pleasure to read and we get to know a little bit the great woman your grandmother was. The worst part of grief is often the feeling of guilt. If we manage to realise that the ones who loves dearly forgive us for all our shortcomings automatically, often we can (with time) turn the bitter grief into sweet memories. Keep up the good poetry.

Hello Hans, Thank you for the kind words. And I apologize for the terribly, terribly late reply as I wasn't that active anymore on this site, unfortunately. Hope to hear more from you too! TC
