The Lucky Little Duckling Poem by Alonzo Titus

The Lucky Little Duckling

There once was a little duckling
who lived very near a pond,
he would sleep in a nest
with his mother at night
and awaken at early dawn.
There lived near by,
a hungry fox,
of duckling he was fond,
but every morning
when he would go to the nest,
he would find the duckling gone.

The hungry fox would leave the nest
and run down to the pond,
out on the water he saw the ducks
but something was very wrong.
All the ducks were there alright
but all the fox could do
was stand around and stare at them,
he dare not try to pursue.
When he lived with his mom,
as a kit,
she did every thing for him,
but the one thing that she overlooked,
was to teach him how to swim.

You might have heard a person say
as you've traveled along your way,
a duck out of water,
may be someone we know,
having a difficult day,
maybe we can help them out
and separate right from wrong,
and take them to the safest place,
at the center of the pond.
