The Man In The Mirror Poem by Clinton Ekeh

The Man In The Mirror

Before my mirror, I stood
With flashes of cheer surprise
Reflecting betwixt mirror and eyes
Which left me completely doumbfounded
Could I be the one thus reflected?
Nay, it can't possibly be. Not at all
This mirror is either behind time,
Or spiritually blind
For the last time I looked,
Through the mirror of God's word,
A new rejuvenated man I saw,
Basking in radiance and glory,
With the cheerfulness of a joyful soul,
Void of lacks, wants or necessities,
An all round success,
A blessing to his generation.
One who never falls sick,
Who has eternal life bubbling inside of him,
Whose words are words of hope,
Ministering goodnews to the broken hearted.
In this mirror, I saw not a mere man,
But one who is Christ like,
A god in human kind.
But in this other mirror,
Hung on my carnal wall,
A different reflection I see.
I saw a condemned sinner, guilty as charged,
Whereas I have been set free by the blood,
Which was shed on the cross.
I saw flaws and frailtiness,
Whereas I've been strengthened by Christ,
And I can do all things through his might.
I saw fear of the known and unknown,
Whereas I've not been given the spirit of fear,
But of power, love and sound mind.
I saw an impoverished man,
Whereas I am an heir of Abraham,
An offspring of his blessings.
I saw failure in human flesh,
Whereas I am more than a conqueror,
And I have overcome the world!
I saw an ordinary mortal, a mere man
Whereas I have been crucified with Christ,
The life I now live is Christ's,
In him I live, move and have my being.
Ohh, what a liar this mirror is,
For only God's word I believe.
Yea, am a new creation,
For I now have salvation.
Henceforth, I walk not by sight
But by faith, a good battle I fight.
I refuse to be conformed to the world
But to be transformed by God's word
Which is the only mirror I behold
To keep me sound and whole.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
God's word is the only mirror through which we can see ourselves for who we really are; His children made in His own image.
