The Mayan Maidens I Saw Them In Guatemala And Tried To Draw Parallels Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

The Mayan Maidens I Saw Them In Guatemala And Tried To Draw Parallels

As they seemed to be so close
Mythically and mystically
The Mayan people,
Their art and culture,
Society and nomenclature,
Faith and beliefs,
Motifs and symbols.
Their woven traditional dress,
Designs of the fabrics,
Beautiful costumes,
The thatched houses,
Settlements and protocol
Called us, called us for a study
Of the Maya, the Mayan culture.
When I saw them, something drew me to
So close to understand
What Maya culture was,
What was it Maya civilization
Which but many understood it not
The beauty and mystery of the Maya civilization,
Who were but the Maya?
