The Medicine Chest Poem by Claude H Oliver II

The Medicine Chest

When spiritual pain knocked on my door
Uninvited to pace my floor
To find its comfort at my expense
I reached out for balm
To soothe and calm
The respite was short though sweet
But it could not delete
The injury
The wound unhealed continued on

Then I went inside to greet the pain
To find out why the balm was in vain

It was then my uninvited guest
Pointed to my medicine chest
All I needed was to heed
That inside that chest was all I would need

My visit is to help you learn
To grow strong during your sojourn
To appreciate those times of joy to the fullest
To understand difficult times contain questions which must be asked
The answers come not from rituals, books or texts
But lie inside your medicine chest
My child Ask your heart to bide its time
The answer is in the chest - inside you
