The Mermaid Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

The Mermaid

By the sea, so fair and bright,
A maiden sat, a wondrous sight.
Hair like sun, a golden gleam,
Singing softly, like a dream.

Fishermen, they heard her call,
Drawn to her, risking all.
Her voice, a hook, a silken thread,
To rocky shores, they would be led.

But look below, a secret deep,
Where scales did shine, and fins did sleep.
No legs she had, but tail so grand,
To drag them down, from sea and land.

Her beauty hid a wicked art,
To break the sailor's trusting heart.
A warning soft, when skies turned gray,
Of storms to come, and dark dismay.
